Mediation and Collaborative Law
These are available to a separating couple as a way to discuss all children and financial issues that may arise, without the worry of litigation and court appearances.
Mediation is a process where you both sit down with someone independent to discuss the possible options available, with the mediator helping you to try and reach an agreement. Although this is not always possible many couples find it extremely helpful having a mediator to guide them towards an agreed solution to the problems they are facing.
An alternative is Collaborative Law. This process is slightly different to mediation in that it enables both you and your partner to have informal discussions and meetings involving your respective solicitors. Everyone involved signs an agreement confirming the mutual aim of seeking to reach a fair settlement without the threat of Court proceedings.
