Divorce and Dissolution of Civil Partnerships

Divorce is the legal process of ending a marriage through a Court procedure. It rarely involves the necessity to attend court and usually takes between four and six months if not defended.

If there are children of the family, the court will have to be satisfied that the arrangements for those children are satisfactory. If arrangements are not agreed between the parents, either party can make an application for the court to make a decision in relation to the arrangements.

Since the introduction in December 2005 of the Civil Partnership Act, it is now possible for same sex couples to enter into a committed legal relationship similar to marriage. The process for ending such a relationship is the same as for a divorcing couple.

To issue a simple undefended divorce or dissolution of civil partnership we will charge £750 plus VAT of £150.00 with Court fees of £385 producing a total of £1,285.

Advising a person against whom proceedings are issued is charged at an hourly charging rate and legal costs would be significantly below the amounts set out above.
